I'm not a fan of ex posto facto law, but I think you have to realize that the job of the District Attorney is not necessarily to follow the "rule of law" but rather to placate their constituency. That's why you see these somewhat bogus trumped up charges for Ravi and all sort of crazy things happening with Zimmerman. It's unfortunate that we don't have legal code written for every situation and alot of the time, things just get mishandled and someone who should not be punished goes to jail, or someone who is guilty gets off scott free.
